General Competencies

To provide students with the specific knowledge of the profession to collaborate in physiotherapy and rehabilitation care for both adult and pediatric patients, applying established therapeutic protocols under the supervision of various healthcare professionals. It also involves the proper handling of treatment equipment and techniques, assistance in patient mobilization, and implementation of safety and hygiene measures, all following quality criteria and good clinical practices to contribute to improving the patient's physical and functional status.

Course Objectives

• To approach the concept of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, both general and specific to pediatrics.
• Assist patients with transfers and mobilizations within the Service.
• Identify the different phases of development of postural control and human gait.
• To know the different instruments and assessment scales for pediatric and adult neurological patients.
• Learn about the most common muscle-tendon and bone pathologies, as well as their treatments.
• Understand the operation of the different equipment used in physical therapy.
• Maintain the order and cleanliness of the different Service devices.
• Identify needs, apply principles, and apply different treatment methodologies to patients under the supervision of physical therapists and rehabilitation physicians.
• Know the principles of application of Therapeutic Exercise.
• To know the principles of applying manual therapy in adult and child patients.
• To understand the principles of applying methods based on motor control: movement restriction therapy on the healthy side, task-oriented motor learning, and mirror therapy.

Admission Requirements

Aimed at professionals or students who hold or are currently enrolled in a healthcare program. In other cases, the application for access will be reviewed and evaluated.

Delivery Method

The course has a marked character theorist-practicalStudents will have access to theoretical content and assessment tests through the virtual classroom with the support of a tutor.

The specialty of Physiotherapy and Physical and Pediatric Rehabilitation Assistant, includes two modules of external internships:

* 30 specific practical hours in the pediatric rehabilitation and physiotherapy department of the Sant Joan de Deu Hospital in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona).

* 70 hours in outpatient physiotherapy services and/or physiotherapy centers for practical training in general physiotherapy.

Qualification

At the end of the course, the student will be issued a Diploma as Physiotherapy and Physical and Pediatric Rehabilitation Assistantto by Shape-t and the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital.
